>> happy monday, we made it through the weekend, guess what we're still talking about? possible, another white house shake-up. we know president trump is looking for a new fb i am director, but there are reports that more heads could roll within the administration. >> there is a lot of speculation about this, and really that's all it is, speculation, but as you see from the run down on the screen, what we are talking
6:31 pm
us what's on your minds with the hashtag five at 30:00, washington after the sudden firing at pbi director james comey. doesn't seem like a long time ago. president's trying to turn the attention to potential candidate to fill comey's shoes, there are names being floated interviews started over the week edge, former assistant attorney alice fisher current acting fbi director andrew mccain, senator john cordyn of texas, judge michael garcia from new york. >> also on the list judge henry hudson us district judge from virginia, frances townsend, served as advisor to george w. bush, forge err congressman from michigan mike rogers tops the list. i'll say it is interesting to know, we heard from group of f.b.i. agent over the weekends, who said think would actually endorse mike rogers, actually sent something to the president saying this is the guy that you should bring in they really like him. >> at one point required from congress couple of years ago, when you talk
6:32 pm
and file all goes back to what sarah huckabee sanders said, one of the reasons we heard so many reasons coming out the of the white house, he had -- rang and file lost confidence, then heard it wasn't true. then speculation when mccain said that, would that change his chances? >> getting to be very tough replacement process here. >> interesting thing here both republicans and democrats have been talking about this, and they've been little cautious about who the actual replacement may be. take a listen. >> i don't believe he should be part of this review process, having true recusal, and as well, i think, who ever the future fbi director ought to be it, should and law enforcement professional. we got a chance to re sit here as a nation, the president has a chance to clean up the mess that he mostly created. so i would encourage the president to pick somebody we can all rally around including those who work in the fbi. >> so the question is, as you move forward, do you -- all awe lodge talking about the political ramification of this. do you want this
6:33 pm
be political process? from all appearances that would eliminate some names along the way. >> sure. >> talk that, and i don't think will ever happen shall mitch o'connell, why don't you appoint garland? >> i think that will be highly unlikely, but you don't want that appearance of politics in. >> this they want someone who they believe will be straight down the middle. and we've even heard from some democrats who would like to see some sort of special council brought in to investigate the comey firing before we get the new fbi director. dow then the it will happen. heard from the white house that name could be, that person, could be named as early as this week. >> pay possibly, before first trip, i believe leaves what thursday or friday on the trip. all right, there are democrats out there who want to know if there is anything to the president's suggestion he may have recorded conversations with james comey. now, if there were recordings, they would be official federal records. if there are out there, theyat- should preserve them, turn them over. comey confide today friends, private white house dinner, he refused to make pledge of
6:34 pm
president, there was a lot of speculation in the letter that came out. announcing firing from the president to comb that i he said three separate times you're not under investigation, we heard it come out of the lesser holt interview, but nothing concrete out there hasn't been confirmed on either side. >> so let's bring in nick johnston, editor attacks rios. com. thanks so much for joining us. >> how are you? >> let's talk about these so called tapes, democrats say, well democrats and republicans both saying if these tapes exist, bring them out, put them out in the public. what's your take? >> tapes and court marks, saying he hopes. >> are there tames, where are the tames, what has been taped? white house given no additional information on this, which i think has caused fire storm on the hill between both republicans, and answer to the question, are there tames?
6:35 pm
turned over. >> do you think there is any fear that there could be something, if they do exist, there could be something incriminating out there? >> but james comey has reportedly said is that he is looking forwards to coming before congress in a public hearing. so whatever is possibly on those tapes, he is not worried about it, prepared to testify to that in front of congress. so speak speculating, maybe clear this up, is it illegal for a president to tape someone in his office without their knowledge? a lot of uncertainty about the legal issues of this, what we do know if those tapes exist, they are federal records, must be preserved, turned over to investigators, and members every congress certainly within their right to seen them. >> there we saw tapes, everybody making nixon comparisons, in the grand scheme of things, it is worrisome. but his is also something that as you mention the president himself, had he not sent that tweet out on friday morning, we wouldn't be talking about this. >> true. where the fire storm came
6:36 pm
you mention nixon, when he fired james comey. that brought up a lot of the comparisons, members of congress on the hill. when he tweeted this it up ended the narrative surrounding james comey firing. certainly comey served at the president's, could fire him whenever he wanted to, he can collect these kinds of documents where ever he want to. it gives room for democrats particularly on the hill, trying to get copies of it. >> moving forward, you know, as we just went through of list, potential people to replace james comey, any indication from your reporting or your sources of who the white house might be leaning more toward? >> i think you had pretty comprehensive list. we've known they've been doing interviews with all of the candidate. we don't know who in the lead. but you mention the president leaves for the middle east friday. he told reporters today that he hopes to have the decision done rapidly. >> all right,. >> i have to say if anybody out there, if you haven't checked it out, it is fabulous, you guys launch around the election, and it is k
6:37 pm
definitely have to check it out. everything you need to know on a daily basis? nick, thanks for coming in. great to have you on the show tonight. >> talk little bit more about what's next. for that we want to bring in congress woman stacey. >> hi, how are you? >> welcome. >> for our viewers who don't know, your former us intelligence chief excuse me you represent the virgin islands right now excuse me but former federal prosecutor and you used to work with former fbi director jim comey, right? >> sure. yes. i was one every his senior council's with him when he was the deputy attorney general of the justice department. >> let me get your opinion, you know him personally. we've heard so much since the firing has happened. we heard report from the white house that the rang and file had lost confidence. what was your take on him when you worked with him? >> everyone knows james comey in washington is being one of the most stellar law enforcement officers, a stellar prosecutor, someone above reproach. his end telling rid i something that everyone talks
6:38 pm
was that way when he was the deputy attorney general, and of course, as you saw from the bipartisan support that he received, to be the fbi director that goes across the board, with all both republican and democrats. >> in your position, watch the last, in washington, before the election when the announcement came about, re-opening this investigation, into hillary clinton, and we heard comey from one side, praised by the other, then praised by one side, do you think that maybe had he a do-over woe do things differenty? >> i think possibly. one of the things about james comey his need to keep the integrity and the institution for which he represents, usually the thing he thinks about most. so in that respect i think that's why he may have over stepped a little bit in terms of the latter part of when he made the second announce: i think the first announcement as well to create transparency because of the questions about the ag being involved or not being involved in recuse
6:39 pm
herself. and i think it may have caused little bit in the prosecutors fear because that's not something you usually go out and see, unless you have an indictment, you know you're not going to indictment, you leave it there. you don't say how much you're investigating or not investigating. >> do you think his firing or let me ask you were you surprised by his firing? >> i was not. >> tell us why not? >> i think i was not surprised by it because of the amount of invection president trump has made in areas that traditionally are outside the sphere of the executive branch. we know that the late 19 70s, congress created a ten year term for the fbi director because they did not want it to be so politicize dollars and did not want congress or the white house involved in the actions of the fbi director. but, we know that president trump really kind of pushes the sphere of what he should or should not be involved in. and the
6:40 pm
storm that's been created by the russian investigation, i think; one that left him feeling not confident about director comey. >> we're out of time but real quick do you think there should be a special investigative -- >> definitely so i wrote with ted lou, kathleen rice, all former prosecutors, asking back in april that a special prosecutor be named. because while congress can do its own investigation, in the intelligence community, we're not prosecutorial arm, cannot create criminal charges. i think that's necessary on both left and right side. so that everyone can have confidence in the outcome. >> congressman, thank you for coming in tonight. >> thank you. >> thanks so much. >> all right. for the second time in a week, government lawyers were back in federal appeals court to defend the president's revised travel ban. they want the justices to reinstate the ban, but the three judge panel had tough questions for both sides here including whether this ban was actually die sign to discriminate against muslims. the judges did not give any indication today of when they might

eyes are watching. >> no kidding. meantime let's talk about what we've been seeing the last couple of of days, beautiful, beautiful day for sure. >> gorgeous day. sue palka? beautiful day, upper 70s, but we'll see the wind getting better going through the evening hours, so let me run you through the weather headlines after the sun goes down, little after 8:00, winds should begin to diminish, clear skies, and it might be just little bit on the cool side in the overnight hours. because the air is still pretty dry. we are back to sunshine though again on tuesday. it will be warmer tomorrow. many places will be closer to to 80, a i think beautiful day, not quite as windy being maybe not all of the tree and grass pollen blowing all over the place, as we get into wednesday, thursday, friday, we have to describe the weather pattern as hot. summer preview, three day stretch, maybe even above 90 degrees in many areas, and our last weather headline while we feel like summer late week, looks like it will be little

into the weekends, most every these days are dry. can't rule out a pop up thunderstorm on friday. maybe sunday of this week, so quite a different weather pattern from what we had last week. jim and sean, those are your weather headlines.& >> thank you, sue. >> all right, on the way to the white house, getting little company. let's go to ronica. >> here is the question of the day. would you be comfortable with your child going to school with the sun or daughter of the president? that's what these parents have to answer. way in, take our twitter pole. we will be back with the full story, coming up next.

blunt warning in northern virginia, serious concerns that the budget proposal from the trump administration would actually slash programs, aimed at fighting the spread of gangs. fox5's tom fitzgerald live in alexandria tonight, more on the meeting they had today. fits? >> yes, jim, sean, talking about this issue a lot here on 5@6:30. one of the things that we got into today, was whether or not what's been talked about at the national level, translate into what actually happens on the streets, in our local communities. today the focus on northern virginia. are there budget cuts that could be coming down the line that could actually harm some of these anti-gang programs? things like mentoring, after school programs, even sports soccer programs, that are lee lied upon in many northern virginia communities, to keep young people from joining gangs. now, as part of this effort, senator tim kaine, the democrat, former vice president, came here to alexandria today. he had a rounds tablef

enforcement, educators, most importantly, people from the communities that are only not only at risk for having young people recruited from, but also, many times, winds up being the victims of these street gangs. and what they heard was this. that there needs to be a comprehensive, one, two, program, for both the federal government and local officials. that it is not enough just to talk tough about border security, and i am graduation enforcement, about you they also have to stand up and keep these kinds of programs that keeps kids out of gangs going. they heard from a young man by the name of kevin today. now, kevin asked us not to show his face, not to reveal his whole name. the reason being, is because some of the things he had to say were quite blunt, and quite honest, about what he's faced and what he, himself, has been involved in in his own history of getting mixed up, you told the senator today apparent to

grader at northern virginia school right now that there are adults who are enrolled in school, who are using their access to those schools to recruit for gangs. we also heard from police today, who said very plainly that immigration enforcement has to be part of any effort to stop gangs in north virginia. listen to this sound from kevin. >> they are in the school. people are like 19 years old or almost 20 years old, these kind of people, doesn't really want to study. you can see that in their eyes. i have seen people who just come to school for first class and they skip the whole day, takking with them eight to nine kids. >> and the fact is that not every kid coming across the board czar bad kid. we all know. that will but we also know that not every kid coming across the border is a good kid. so we have to find that mix inbetween
6:54 pm
>> senator cane said very timely discussion, why? monday, the senate is going to get its first look at the trump administration's budget, and if these programs, that they're concerned about, winds up getting cut, welshing senator said, quite frankly, that we could start to see reversal of some of the prague he is that's been made in north virginia and that these crimes, and these incidents that we've heard in the news, far too often, lately, well, cain said he's concerned only will get worse. >> is the gang problem getting better or getting worse? that's one of the reasons i'm here to learn it, but what i will say is i don't know, i don't think, we're happy with the progress we're making, you know, whether it is getting better or whether it is getting worse, i think we need to be making more progress. >> of course it should be noted last september during the president

kaine said the issue every sanctuary cities coming from the trump campaign was in his words a phantomish ooh. the director of ice on thursday told fox5 that he believes communities that declare themselves sanctuary cities are menace to both the public, and police. live in alexandria tonight, jim, sean, send it back into you. >> thank you, fit. back after this.
